The beloved children's show Bluey is set to make a significant cultural impact by being dubbed into an Australian Indigenous language for the first time. This initiative, part of National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (Naidoc) Week, celebrates the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. Five episodes from seasons one and two of Bluey have been translated into Yolŋu Matha, the language of North-east Arnhem Land, and will be broadcast and streamed on Sunday, July 5th. The re-voiced episodes, featuring local children from North-east Arnhem Land as the voices of Bluey and Bingo, are a testament to the power of storytelling in preserving and promoting Indigenous languages. The project, developed in collaboration with Bluey creators Ludo Studio and the ABC, aims to bring the rich culture and language of North-east Arnhem Land into homes across the country. This move not only celebrates the language's history but also highlights its importance as a vital part of Australia's diverse heritage. The show's global popularity, with over 140 countries streaming it, makes this initiative even more impactful. By making Bluey accessible in an Indigenous language, the project contributes to a future where First Nations languages are increasingly heard, celebrated, and recognized. This is a significant step towards preserving cultural heritage and promoting understanding and respect for Australia's Indigenous communities. The episodes will also be screened at the Garma festival in August, further extending the reach and impact of this important project.
